Montezuma Ball is an exclusive, black tie gala event bringing together supporters of two local nonprofit organizations, Animal Humane New Mexico (AHNM) and the New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers (VIC). Guests will enjoy an evening of saving pets and serving people in New Mexico. Montezuma Ball began 100 years ago, starting in 1902 as part of the New Mexico Territorial Fair. The tradition continued until the last historic ball was held at the Alvarado Hotel in Albuquerque in 1968. In 2000, Heritage Hotels and Resorts restored this New Mexico tradition to inaugurate its new Alvarado Ballroom at Hotel Albuquerque. Since then, Montezuma Ball has raised millions of dollars for deserving nonprofits across New Mexico. The event includes drinks, a gourmet dinner, an entertaining and inspiring program, and after-party dancing.
The 2026 Montezuma Ball is on November 21, 2026 in the Alvarado Ballroom at Hotel Albuquerque. Attendees can expect more details about parking, timing, and check-in closer to the Ball.
Registration Opens and Cocktail Hour begins: 5:30 p.m.
Ballroom Doors open: 6:30 p.m.
Program begins: 7 p.m.
After Party at Casa Esencia: 9 p.m. – 1:30 a.m.
The Montezuma Ball is a black-tie, formal event. We recommend wearing gowns and tuxedos. For 2026, our theme is Saving Pets, Serving People, featuring emerald green and gold - guests are encouraged to wear emerald green and gold to align with the theme.
Funds raised during the 2026 Montezuma Ball will go to the following local non-profit organizations: Animal Humane New Mexico (70%), the New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers (10%), and the New Mexico Multi-Cultural Foundation (20%).
No, admission to the Ball is available through table sponsorship purchases. Each table comes with 10 seats. Our available table sponsorships currently start at $5,000. The Art in the Garden Party is a silent auction soiree that contributes to our overall 2026 Montezuma Ball fundraising. The Art in the Garden Party will be held on on August 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hotel Albuquerque. This event is open invitation and free to attend. The evening will include a silent auction featuring fine jewelry, art, and more; hors d'oeuvres; a cash bar; and adoptable shelter animals. The silent auction will also be available online if you cannot attend in person.
